THE ENDANGERED FOREST OF Pseudotsuga sinensis IN YUNNAN PLATEAU

  • This paper presents the endangered natural forest of Pseudotsuga sinensis at Luhquan county of Yunnan Province. We have analysed its natural habitat, the flora specification and component plant species of the forests; the structural and the ecological characteristics of the community; the natural regeneration of the overgrowth etc.; The forests distributed in mountainous regions from the altitude of 2000-2400 m. There are 55 families, 118 genera, and 142 species of higher-plant comprised in the forests. The flora is mainly North Temperate Distribution-type (about 44% of 118 genera), next are Cosmopolitan Type (21%) and Pantropic Type (14%). There are four strata of the typical structure of the evergreen broad-leaf forests in the forests. The tree stratum can again be divided into subtree, strata. The main Live-form of the plants is Evergreen-mesophanerophytes; Mes. Leaf Form gained the domination among these Leaf-forms. These characters give expression in the specificitics of subtropical forest. Eve though thinking of Pseudotsuga sinensis as valuable, rare, archaic tree species, but then it has characters of easy germination and of hard adaptability, in addition beautiful shape of tree, excellent timber and high rate of increment. It would seem to be better popularized as valuable afforestation tree species in Yunnan-Guizhou plateau.
