AN OBSERVATIONilON THE SPOTTED LEAF-CUT WEEVIL PAROPLAPODERUS PARDALIS

  • The insect of leaf-cut weevil is a kind of abundant pest in temperate, subtro-pical and tropical region found on various kinds of trees, yet only a few article mentioned in our country. This article introduces a record of Paroplapoderus pardalis Snellen yon Vollenhoven, the observation was made in the vicinities of Arming, Kunming from 1985 to 1986. It was found that P. pardalis S. yon V. infest the foliage leaf of Celtis Kunrningensis Cheng et. Hong. In many references to this weevil, it has been recorded on the host trees of following species belong to Fagaceae; as chestnut, sawtooth oak, glandbearing oak, and japanese beech. Now, it is foundon the tree Celtis Kunrningensis Cheng et Hong. There is one generation a year in this area, and the adults occur at late June to early August, All stages may be hibernated and the adults frequently also aestivated. A spccies of natural enemy, of this weevil has been found, namely, exoparasitic Braconid wasp (Hymenoptera, Braeonidae), the parasite rates up to 60% in June.
