Abstract
The purpose of this experiment is to probe into the rooting ability in varieties of Osmanthus fragrans and the effect of NAA treatment. The results of the experiment showed that there were statistically significant differences in their rooting ability(p<0.001). The cutting of Semperflorens were most readily to root. The rooting ability of Latifolius was inferior to that of Semperflorens, while Aurantiacus was somewhat difficult for rooting. Their significant differences of rooting can be found after two months of cutting. Within one growing season the cutting of Semperflorens produced a well developed root system, as well as new shoots, while the cutting of Latifolius could only form root system without new shoots. NAA treatment could greatly promote the rooting of Latifolius(p0.001) but have on notable effect on the readily rooting Semperflorens(p>0.05). Although the rooting ability of Aurantiacus whose rooting ability was rather weak was greatly improved by NAA treatment(p<0.05), the survival rate was extremely low(only 10%). Therefore while propagating Semperflorens and Latifolius, simple cutting is adaptable; but for the propagation of Aurantiacus grafting is much more suitable.
