A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE LIFE HISTORY AND HABITS OF Epilachna Clematicola(COLEOPTERA, COCCINELLIDAE)

  • Epilachna clematicola is the monophagus insect of the weed-Clematis armandii. The adults and larvae feed on the fresh leaves of this weed and wither up the plant. Eggs are deposited and the full grown larvae pupate on the leaves of the plant. The ladybeetle has 2 generations a year in Kunming and its vinicities. It overwinters in the crevices of the earth during adult stage with the twisted leaves. In this article, bionomics of all stages of the insect are given briefly. Epilachna clematicola shoald be protected and utilized as a kind of biological control agent of the weed-Clematis armandii.
