A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON CRESCOCCUS CANDIDUS(HOMOPTERA:LECANODIASPIDIDAE)

  • Crescoccus candidus Wang infeststrees belonging to Fagaceae such as Castanea mollissima and Cyclobalanopsis glauca etc, It Causes great damage to Castanea mollissima, This pest has one generation a year in Kunming, The female adults over-winter on the infested twigs, The peak of spreading period of the newly hatching nymphs is in the middle of June; emergence of the male adults at its height is in the middle of October. These two dates are effective for the chemical control. The life table of this scale insect shows that the population mortality percentage reaches 97.8%. Two species of the Encyrtid parasites are the natural controlling agents of the pest population density. The economic Threshold for chemical control has been determined as 19/10cm2.
