The forest vegetation and woody flora of the protected area of lugu lake

  • The protected area of Lugu Lake is situated in the north of ninglang County, Yunnan Province, (27°36'~27°47'N. lat., 100°43'~100°54' E. Long.) with the alt of 2680~3870 m. where an original matriachal society of Mosuo natives still remains. According to the dominant trees and their life forms in this arca, 6 forest types and (i. c., evergreen broad-leaf, deciduous broad-leal, evergreen coniferous and deciduous coniferous forests, and evergreen broad-leaf and deciduous broad-leaf shrub) cleven formations are divided. Abies, Picea, Pinus, Larix and evergreen Quercus are the most important components of the forests. So far as the woody flora is concerned, the area is characterized with its low density (only 1.06 gen., 1.88 sp. per sq km.), dominantly temperate elements (of 67.7% gen.), various areal types(including 12 types and 8 forms), abundant endemic species of Yunnan, Southwestern China or China and calciphile plants.
