A study on the biological characteristics of dendrocalamus membranaceus munro

  • This paper reports the biological characteristics of the bamboo (Dendrocalamus membranaceus Munro) which is widely distributed in the South of Yunnan by summarizing its geogrophical distribution, ecological habits, growth and biomass. The observation shows that this bamboo is a heliophilous plant distributed in the northern edge of the tropies. It starts shooting in early July, shoots in larger quantities in August, and reaches it:climax in September. The average growth rate is 0.31 m. per day during the period.
