  • A preliminary study of flowering characteristics of Pinus armandii Franch made in 1987 and 1990 in three plantations in Zixishan,Chuxiong,Yunnan Province showed that among individual plants there were significant differences in the number of male and fe-male strobili and their ratios in the length of pollen grains and in the pollen germination percentage.It appeared that the germination behavior of Pinus armandii Franch pollen grains was not similar to that of those of Pseudotsuga menziesii and Larix sibirica.The pollen grains germinated well on agar medium with sucrose.A brief discussion on the se-lection and breeding of Pinus armandii according to its flowering characteristics is made as well.
