AN INTRODUCTION TRIAL OF EUCALYPTUS GRANDIS

  • An introduction trial conducted in Yunnan shows that the species of Eucalyptus grandis displays a good growth rate in some areas with ideal water and temperature condi-tions in the tropical and subtropical regions of the province. The average annual increases in trunck height and D.B.H.are generally over 2 m and 2 cm respectively with their respective upper fimits being 4.36m and 5.54cm,which are equal to or even higher than those or other Eucalytus species introduced at earlier time and those in their original habi-tat or other introduction regions of China. This article deals with the adaptability, the range and conditions of adaptation and the growth characteristics of Eucalyptus grandis.6 adaptive site types have primarily been set up for the growth of the species in Yunnan Province, which provides a scientific basis for its greater development in the province.
