FEATURES OF BAMBOO RESOURCES AND A DISCUSSION ON THEIR EXPLOITATION IN HENAN

Henan is the north edge of bamboo distribution in China.There are 6 genera, 24 species and 12 varieties of bamboos in Henan.These bamboos are dominated by small or middle-sized species.Their numbers are limited.Based on the features of bamboo resources and the present situation of utilization are brought about:1.To extend intensive management technology to gain high production;2.To popularize bamboo-hand-making techniques and develop bamboo timber processing industry;3.To enhance shoot-used bamboo forests or shoot and timber double used bamboo forests;4.To establish pulp-producing bases in Dabiashan region and develop bamboo pulp industry; 5.To develop bamboo forests around house-holds;6.To conduct research on ornamental bamboos;and 7.To develop multiple utilization of bamboo forests.
