Abstract
This paper deals with an anatomical study on the secondary xylem of E. globulus L. grown on the south slope of West Hill in Kunming by means of light microscope(LH) and SEM. The wood structure of the plant varied with the increasing altitude:the diameter of growth ring, the frequency of vessel, the length of fibre tracheid gradually increased. While the length and diameter of vessel and tracheid, the diameter of fibre tracheid, the length of fibre, the frequency and height of ray decreased with the increase of altitude. Both the intervessel and tracheid pits possess vestured pits.
