Astudy on quantitative selection and silvicultural technique of fuelwood species in dongchuan manicipality

  • Based on bilphysical conditions and silvicultural experiences in Dongchuan,12 fuelwood species (Acacia farnesiana,A.dealbafa,A.mearnsii willd,Albizia odoraatissima,Cassia siamee,Casuarina eguisetifolia,Eucalyptus grandis,E.camaldulensis,E.maideni Leucaena leucocephala,Melia izedarzch.Robinia Pseudoa-cacia)were selected and planted in Zhiniu Village,Lumon Town with a splite design ex-periment in July,1992.The measurement was taken in April 1994 about height, ground diameter, crown width and wood volume. The statistcal analysis showed thatthe difference was very significant among these 12 species. To avoid site influence, theintegrated index consisting of height, ground diameter, crown width, and wood vol-ume was applied as the first criteria for evaluating the aboveground growth of fuelwoodspecies. Two hundred kilograms per mu per year of biomass was the second criteria forspecies selection.Seven fuelwood species were selected and identified as extensionhelwood species in Dongchuan area according to the criteria. These seven species were Acacia mearnsii,Eucalyptus camaldulensis,E.grandis,E.maideni,Leucaena leucocephala,Melia zedarach and Acacia decilbala. In addition, different silvicultral techniquewas compared and best techiniques were evaluated and selected.Through the field trialwith these species, these methods and criteria proved to be practical.
