A STUDY ON THE CURRENT STATUS AND PROMOTING APPROACHES OF SOCIAL FORESTRY IN NATIONAL NANGUN RIVER NATURE RESERVE AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Participatory rural appraisal methods and tools such as random interview, field survey, key informant interview, and farmer interviews are firstly applied in this paper to conduct investigation and collect information about the current status, restrictions and improving approaches in management and utilization of lands, forest and other natural resources in and nearby communities of the reserve, women participatory, institutional system of the nature reserve management and relationship among the institute of the reserve management, local governments and communities.The results are described as follows.There are excessive dependence on forests, and diverse types of utilization and management of forests.But lower efficiency to the natural resources and sharp conflicts between local communities and reserve institute have resulted in the major environmental problems, damage to the resources to be protected and inefficient control of the reserve.On the basis of the basic principles and methods of the community forestry, and economic situation of local communities in the reserve, this paper describes some approaches and methods for improving living stantards of local people, solving these conflicts, and improving the reserve management.
