The Effects of Salt Treatment on the Ion Absorption in Three Poplar Genotypes

  • Three poplar genotypes:P. italica,P. popularis and P. euphratica were subjected to salt stresses Significant differences between salt treatments were apparent by the first week for both Na+ and Cl- uptake For both P italica and P. popularis,the uptake of Na+ and Cl- increased with increasing salt treatments,however this was not apparent in P. euphratica The lower uptake of salt ions compared with the other genotypes was most likely due to ion selection in P. euphratica.
