A Study on the Distributional Pattern Adaptive Countermeasureand Life Cycles of the Conifer Sawflies in Yunnan Province

  • The conifer sawflies are important defoliators in Yunnan Province.Up to now 16 species belonging to 6 genera are known in the province.According to the distributional characteristics, the 16 species can be divided into 3 distributional patterns:wide range pattern, narrow range pattern, and spot scattered pattern. The 3 spot scattered pattern species, Microdiprion keteleeriafolius xiao et Huang, Gilpinia jinghongensis xiao et Huang, and Neodiprion chuxiongensis Xiao et Zhou, are rare ones and they should be listed into protected species. On the basis of their adaptibility to food, climate and natural enemies, the 16 species are separated into 2 adaptive types:gregarious living type and dispersive living type. The former sometimes reproduces enormously and causes outbreak in the forest. The latter rarely causes calamity.Besides, the life cycles of 7 species are reported for the first time, and life cycles of 3 other species are replenished.
