Abstract
The tortoise beetle Basiprionota bisignata (Boheman)is an important insect pest of the tree Paulownia elongata S.Y.Hu.The beetle has one generation a year and overwinters by adults under stone,in bark crack, under litter or in top soil. The adults mate up and lay eggs in early April. The mating process lasts 20~40 hours. The females usually lay eggs on newly sprout leaves. Each lump of egg contains 3~12 eggs. The larvae feed and cause damage from mid May to early september. The larvae begin to pupate in mid June. The adults emergence in late June. The field tests proved that an integrated pest management measure combining scientific management of the paulownia forest killing the pest by manpower and using chemical pesticide can effectively control the harm of the pest.
