A Test Study on Growing Seedlings for Castanopsis hystrix by Cutting Roots

A test on growing seedlings for Castanopsis hystrix by cutting roots and staining with ash was carried out, and the differences of a series of properties in quantity and quality such as percentage of adult nursery stock, height, diameter, main root, fibrous roots, branches, leaves and so on were analysed in this paper.The results showed that cutting roots could shorten main root of nursery stock, raise the position of roots on the side and make root system developed so that nursery stocks had vigorous growth in form that diameter and height increased significantly.Although cutting roots decreased the percentage of adult nursery stock to some extent, the method is suitably used to provide instruction for cultivating strong nursery stock of C.hystrix.
