Reflections on Classified Management of the Forests in Deqin County

  • Deqin County is located at the heartland in the area of Three Parallel Rivers with the majority of the population being the Tibetans.Due to its unique location at the upper reaches of the three great rivers(the Nujiang River, the Lancangjiang River and the Jinsha River),special site conditions and the unparallel ways of life and production of the local people, the majority of the forest resources in the county are planned to be managed as forests for ecological benefits and public welfares under the national initiative of rendering the forests of the country under classified management systems.Based on this understanding, this paper analyzed and identified the major problems facing the county in implementing the national initiative of classified forest management;tentative options and key measures guaranteeing the successful realization of these options are recommended.
