Influence of Substrate and Plant Growth Regulators on Rooting of Tender Cutting of Sequoia sempervirens

  • It is demonstrated by cutting experiment of Sequoia sempervirens.with semi-lignified branches treated by 3 kinds of substrate and 26 treatments of plant growth regulators that both of the substrates and plant growth regulators had significant influence on rooting ratio, length and diameter of the roots and the quantity of the new roots.Substrate No.4(river sand:peat=2:1) got the best result, followed by substrate No.12(perlite:peat=2:1),while substrate No.6(mountainous red soil:humus soil=2:1) got the worst result. It is showed that the types and concentrations of plant growth regulator led different cutting results.Cutting did in substrate No.4 two hours after the tender branches had been soaked in 0.075g/kg ABT3 obtained the best result, the same combination altered by 0.075g/kg NAA as plant growth regulator ranked the second.Cutting did in substrate No.12 two hours after the tender branches had been soaked in 0.075g/kg ABT1 showed very good result, followed by the same combination with alternative of 0.1g/kg IBA as plant growth regulator.
