Review of Taxonomy of Curculionidae in China

  • The main family classification systems of Curculionidae in China mainly includes 6-Family System of Tsai(1973),5-Family System of Chao et al.(1980),14-Family System of Li et al.(1986) and 12-Family System of Yang(1999).The 5-Family System of Chao et al.(1980) is now commonly applied in China.The major subfamily classification systems of Curculionidae in China include 16-Subfamily System of Tsai(1973),26-Subfamily System of Chao et al.(1980) and 33-Subfamily System of Li et al.(1986).The 26-Subfamily System of Chao et al.(1980) is commonly adopted in China.The taxonomic history of Curculionidae can be divided into 4 stages that are the early research stage mainly done by foreigners(1758-1927),the applied fundamental research stage(1928-1973),fundamental taxonomic research stage(1974-1980) and the developing taxonomic research stage(since 1981).
