Anatomical Studies on Vegetative Organs of Dendrocalamus sinicus

  • Anatomical studies on the vegetative organs(root, shoot and leaf)of Dendrocalamus sinicus were made by microscopic observation. It was showed by the studies that:The apical structure of young culm was typical tunica - corpus. The tunica was formed by a layer of cells, and there were abundant starch granules in the cells of young culm. The vascular strands in the culm inter -nodes belonged to broken -waist type and double broken -waist type. The arrangement of xylem ducts and phloem sieve tubes of the vascular strands in the nodes was irregular, in which there were some particular "phloem ganglion".There were three kinds of mesophyll cells in the leaf:one was arm -cell with finger formed folds, the other two were irregular cells and radial cells. There were some large shuttle formed cells on both sides of the vascular strands. The midrib was a complex vascular system that was composed of several vascular strands. The apical initial cells of the root top were arranged in cone shape and no typical histogen zones were found.
