Study on Sapling Breeding by Cutting and Afforestation of Azadirachta indica

  • A sapling breeding experiment was done by cuttings made of semi -lignified branches taken from top of the crowns and annual lignified branches taken either from top or bottom of the tree crowns of Azadirachta indica. The cutting materials were treated with different concentration solutions of plant growth regulator prior to the cuttage done on two types of substrates. It was showed by the experiment that:The rooting time for the cuttings on different substrates was significantly different. The significantly different rooting rate was closely related to concentrations of plant growth regulator and quality of substrate, the regulator concentration of 1g/L and the disinfected fine sand as substrate got the best rooting results respectively. The cutting materials from different parts of the crowns also led significant different rooting rates, and the rooting rate of cuttings made of annual lignified branches from crown top reached 95%. The preliminary investigation into afforestation effect indicated that there was no meaningful difference in the growth of plantations by seedlings and cutting saplings
