Study on Biological Characteristics of Dioryctria rubella

  • Dioryctria rubella is an important insect pest that damages the cones of Pinus armandii. Its life history and biological characteristics were described in this paper. It was observed that Dioryctria rubella had 2 generations with late instar larvae overwintering in the cone of Pinus armandii in Zixi Mountain, Chuxiong Municipality, Yunnan Province.Adults of Dioryctria rubella usually emerged during 12:00~18:00, courted and mated at night. The adult emergence quantity of Dioryctria rubella was affected by temperature and rainfall during the emergence period, and the adults would choose oviposition locations andmainly lay eggs on the surface of 2 -year -old cones of Pinus armandii.
