Determination of Rosin-producing Capacity of Half and Whole Compatriot Progeny of High Rosin-producing Pinus massoniana Varieties

  • Rosin-producing capacity of both the half and the whole compatriot progenies of high rosin-producing varieties of Pinus massoniana was determined. It was showed by the determination that the average rosin-producing capacity of 16 families of 7-year-old half-compatriot progenies was 9.67 g/10 cm, among which the capacity of 8 families was above the average. The average heritability of rosin-producing capacity of 21 half-compatriot progenies was 78.21%, and the genetic gain was 61.46%, belonging to intermediate level.Among the 4 families of 7-year-old whole-compatriot progenies, one(cross combination 43×16 by artificial pollination) had 24.1 g/10 cm of rosin-producing capacity, and the rosin-producing capacity of the rest three whole-compatriot progenies surpassed 10 g/10 cm, indicating that the rosin-producing capacity of whole-compatriot progenies was generally superior to that of the half-compatriot ones.
