Abstract
The soil fertility and the water conserving capacity of the 35-year-old Cyclobalanopsis chungii and Cunninghamia lanceolata plantations were studied by investigating into the biomass and soil fertility of these plantations. The results showed that the Cyclobalanopsis chungii plantation had better function to improve water conserving capacity and soil fertility compared with the Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation. The steadiness of soil aggregate and porosity were promoted, the bulk density was decreased, and the water and nutrient conditions in the Cyclobalanopsis chungii plantation were better than those of in Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation. The water holding rate of Cyclobalanopsis chungii leaves was 1.17 times that of Cunninghamia lanceolata leaves.Conclusively speaking, the function of improving the water conserving capacity and soil fertility of Cyclobalanopsis chungii plantation was better than that of Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation.
