Extraction of the Antifungal Component from Corms of Gladiolus gandavensis

There is an active antifungal component in corms of Gladiolus gandavensis.The fresh corms were put into boiling water with 5 times in volume, and then ground into pasty mixture. An approximately pure substance was got by extracting with hot water, ultrafiltration, dialysis, column chromatography and FPLC, the extraction rate was 0.557%. The substance was identified to be a polymer and was named as GAFS. The paper reported the method of extracting and purifying this polysaccharide, and would provide new medicine study with some beneficially fundamental information.
