On the Role of Public Participation in Building Kunming as 'National Gardening City'

Public participation is an essential power in urban greening and forestation, and it is also a beneficial supplement to guarantee the quality and effects of the greening and beautification in urban area. Based on comparing and analyzing the approaches and effects of public participation in urban forestation both abroad and in China, and by means of referring to and introducing the relevant experience and corresponding policies and regulations, some possible approaches of public participation in urban greening were proposed to promote achieving the goal of building Kunming as a 'national gardening city' and to ensure the quality of greening and beautification in the light of the realistic situation in Kunming.
