Sapling Test of Filial Generation and Family Selection of High Seed Yielding Clones of Pinus armandii

  • The growth characteristics of the filial generation for 29 high seed yielding clones of Pinus armandii at sapling stage were determined. It was showed by the results that there were significant differences in height and basal diameter growth of the saplings among families, which indicated that there was abundant base of genetic variation. It was determined that the heritability of sapling height of the tested families was 87.9%, and the genetic variation coefficient of height growth was 32.6%. The heritability of sapling basal diameter of the tested families was 88.4%, and its genetic variation coefficient was 39.0%. 14 families of Pinus armandii were selected based on integrated evaluation on sapling height and basal diameter indices. The genetic gain of sapling height of the 14 families was 5.6%, and the genetic gain of basal diameter was 8.2%. The families of N 42,N 82,N 76 were the most prominent with their growth characteristics, whose genetic gain of sapling height reached 9.0%, and that of the basal diameter reached 14.5%.
