Preliminary Study on Pollination Characteristics of Castanea mollissima

The pollination characteristics of Castanea mollissima were studied by experiments. It was showed that entomophilous pollination played a very important role in the pollinating process for Castanea mollissima plants. Compared to the natural pollination, the average quantity of pollens on the isolated stigmata was reduced by 32%~50%; and the average weight of the involucre was reduced by 22%~35%, the ratio of empty involucre was increased by 19%~23%, and the mean number of nuts inside the involucre was decreased by 0.58~1.14.
