A Preliminary Report on Introduction Experiment of Bamboo into Coastal Sandy Area

  • The introduction experiment on different bamboo species into the coastal sandy area was carried out to determine the survival rate, shoot yield and the growth status under varied site conditions. The results showed that 10 of the tested bamboo species including D.vario-striata, D.oldhami, D.pubescens, D.latiflorus, D.brandisii. P.makinoiii, P.prominens, P.vivax, A.edulis and P.praecox demonstrated well with ideal growth indexes, showing the preliminary success of the introduction experiment. It was indicated that the shoot yield of the introduced bamboo species in the bare sandy soil was generally higher than that of grown under the canopy of Pinus elliottii plantation with better growth conditions, but the survival rate in the bare land was lower.
