Study on Biological Characteristics of Retinia psedotsugaicola

  • Retinia psedotsugaicola mainly infests in cones of Pseudotsuga sinensis Dode in Yunnan Provice. The morphology of the pest was described, and the life history, biological characteristics, distribution and damage status were investigated. It was observed that this species had one generation in Luquan County each year and overwintered as pupa stage inside the damaged cones. The adults emerged from early April to late May, and oviposited during mid April and early June. The larvae emerged from late April to early August and the pupa emerged from mid July to late May of the next year. Some preliminary measures to control this pest insect were proposed in this paper.
