Experiment on Pinus edulis Sapling Breeding by Hardwood Cutting

  • Experiments of Pinus edulis sapling breeding by hardwood cutting treated by rooting powder ABT No.1 and Brassinolide were conducted. The results showed that the rooting rate of the hardwood cuttings soaked in 0.2mg/L of brassinolide for 60min was 44.44%, and the rooting rates were 33.33% and 26.67% individually by soaking the cuttings in 500mg/L of rooting powder No.1 for 60min and in 200 mg/L of rooting powder No.1 for 120 min. There was basically no growth of the above ground part in the first year after undertaking the cuttage by hardwood cuttings of Pinus edulis apart from the formation of callus and root system, which was mainly composed of fine roots with diameter under 2 mm. It was showed that the best results in the dry weight, total length, total surface area and total volume of root system were obtained by soaking the hardwood cuttings in 500 mg/L of rooting powder No.1 for 60 min.
