Physical Properties of Soil and Water Conservation Function of Some Types of Non-commercial Forest

  • The physical properties of soil and water conservation function of several types of non-commercial forests were studied. The results showed that the ecological functions of the tested soil were improved after the land was planted as non-commercial forest. Compared to the soil of Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation, the bulk densities of the non-commercial forest soil were reduced by 10%~12%, both the capillary and non-capillary porosities and the total porosities of the soil increased. The natural soil water content and the capillary moisture were 13%~28% and 23%~27% respectively higher than those of the soil in C. lanceolata plantation. The order of water holding capacity of the different plantation soils was the landscape woodland> water conservation woodland> water and soil conservation woodland> C. lanceolata plantation. The order of water holding capacity of the litter and forest land was water conservation woodland> landscape woodland> water and soil conservation woodland> C. lanceolata plantation.
