On Relationship between Soil Nutrient Contentand Growth of Alstonia scholaris

  • The relationship between the growth of Alstonia scholaris tree species and soil nutrients and pH value was explored by means of correlation analysis, regression analysis and path analysis. The results showed that the height, trunk diameter at 50 cm height above the root collar, number of the branches of A. scholaris trees were affected by different soil nutrient factors. Among which the organic matter content and total K content in the soil affected most significantly on the height growth of the tree species; the alkali-soluble N, the exchangeable Mg and pH value were the most important factors affecting the diameter growth and branch formation. Increasing the content of organic matter and K content and ameliorating acidity of the soil would be helpful to promoting the growth of A. scholaris saplings for large scaled forestation with this tree species.
