Utilization Models of Young-middle Aged Plantation of Dendrocalamus brandisii Intercropped with Farming Crops

  • Based on studies on economic benefits and relations among intercropping of Dendrocalamus brandisii with crops and yield of bamboo shoot, number of mature bamboos and the relationship of the stem diameter and height of mature bamboos, the intercropping types of D.brandisii with crops and the management and utilization models were proposed. It was summarized that the intercropping of D.brandisii with corns, peanut, sweet potato and other crops should be carried out inside young plantation in the first 3 years after planting the saplings. Meanwhile, bamboo cuttings of D.brandisii could be prepared by nurturing and selecting 1-year-old major branches with>1 cm basal diameter for cuttage propagation by taking advantage of the strong shooting capacity of D.brandisii young plantation. Some bamboo culms older than 2 years with diameter>5 cm could be utilized for bamboo plywood manufacture by thinning operation according to the demand of age structure control for the bamboo plantation.
