Study on Rhizome Shooting Biological Characteristics of Bumbusa oldhami

  • The biological characteristics of Bumbusa oldhami rhizome regarding to the sprouting rules of large-bud on culm base, the rooting laws of the culm base and the relationship between culm base size and shooting quantity of this bamboo species were studied. It was showed by the results that the numbers of shooting buds of each mother bamboo ranged from 3 to 10,and the majority ranged from 5 to 9.The amount of large-buds on culm base of mother plants was positively correlated with culm diameter classes. The large-buds on the culm bases began to sprout from February, and the sprouting peak time appeared between March to May,and the sprouting ended after June. The whole root system of B.oldhami entered ageing period six years after being planted. There was significantly positive correlation between culm base size and the shooting quantity,The regressive equation between these two factors was expressed as Y=0.042 4 X2-1.775 5 X+28.961.
