Flooding Effect on Growth and Physiology of Distylium chinesis

  • Flooding effect on growth and some physiological indexes of Distylium chinesis were studied by pot experiments. The results showed that the height growth of Distylium chinesis seedlings was significantly inhibited after the flooding lasted for three months;the seedling survival rate was above 98.6% after having been flooded for 5 months. The chlorophyll content declined, while the relative electric conductivity increased along with the time extension and strengthening of the flooding. The content of free prolines increased gradually along with flooding time extension, but different degree of flooding had different effects on it.The study showed that Distylium Chinese is a tree species with strong tolerance against flooding, which could be planted along river and reservoir banks where water level fluctuates frequently.
