The Present Status of Walnut Industry and Development Countermeasures in Huaning County

There has been a long history of walnut cultivation in Huaning County, Yunnan Province and the walnut resource is plentiful in the county because the climatic conditions there are suitable to the growth and development of walnut trees. The cultivars "Big and White Shell" and "Sand Shell" are the local superior walnut cultivars which produce large nut with high oil content and pure fragrance have prosperous market. Some development countermeasures were proposed to better develop the special non-timber product forests, increase the farmers' income in the mountainous area based on the analysis of the problems related to walnut industry development.
