Assessment on Urban Forest Biomass and Carbon Storage in Guangzhou

  • This paper estimated Guangzhou forest biomass and carbon storage by IPCC method, based on Guangzhou forest management survey data, according to Guangdong main tree species wood density and carbon density. Assessment results as following: Guangzhou forest biomass of forestry land is 1 610.53×104 t, the arbor forest biomass accounts for 84.28%, forest biomass per hectare is 54.82 t, arbor forest biomass is the largest, average biomass per hectare is 60.94 t. Guangzhou forest carbon storage of forestry land is 792.60×104 t, the arbor forest carbon storage accounts for 85.63%, forest carbon storage per hectare is 26.98 t, arbor forest carbon storage is the largest, average carbon storage per hectare is 30.47 t. Forest biomass and carbon storage mainly depends on the forest growing stock, So for improving the forest biomass and carbon storage and forest function, it is inevitable way that tree species of big volume growth for reforestation and strengthening Guangzhou forest management.
