Effect of Six Wood Species on the Mechanical Properties of PVCBased Wood Plastic Composites

  • The PVCbased wood plastic composites (WPC) were prepared by six different wood fibers. The basic shape parameter and surface contact angle of each wood fiber were estimated, and tested the comprehensive mechanical properties for different WPC including flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength and impact strength. The results showed that the mechanical properties of WPC were better when the values of length, length-diameter ratio and contact angle of wood fiber were higher. The best mechanical strengths were found on the WPC made by Cunninghamia lanceolata, its values of flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength and impact strength were 45.63 MPa, 3247 MPa, 2914 MPa and 641 kJ/m2.
