The Avian Diversity of Bombax ceiba Flower Visitors in Nujiang Valley, Yunnan

  • We conducted several field surveys on the Bombax ceiba forest distribution plots from 12 January to 11 February in 2015, aiming at complementing the list of bird visitors of Bombax ceiba flowers. These three sample plots were in the villages of Langba, Zhanggong and Bingmen, Lujiang Town, Baoshan City. The avian diversity in the other habitats of the valley and birds composition of flower visitors of the Bombax ceiba community were recorded by line transects in the plots. The results showed that 101 species of birds (11 orders, 38 families) were recorded in the Bombax ceiba community of Nujiang valley, and 31 species (2 orders, 17 families) including 1 species of Piciformes and 30 species of Passeriformes were the Bombax ceiba Flower Visitors, which accounted for 31% of the birds in the valley. Frugivores were the main visiting birds. The visitors with relatively high frequency were Pycnonotus cafer, Pxanthorrhous, Yuhina castaniceps, Zosterops palprbrosa, and Pycnonotus jocosus. The frequencies of these 5 species of birds were significantly different in the other habitats.
