Effects of Drought Stress Simulated by PEG on Seed Germination of Qiongzhuea tumidinoda

  • Different concentrations of PEG6000 solution were used to simulated drought conditions for the osmotic stress treatment of Qiongzhuea tumidinoda. The results showed that: with water stress increased, Qiongzhuea tumidinoda daily relative germination rate of seeds, germination percentage, germinating energy, germination index, vigor index showed a downward trend; low concentrations (5%, 10%) stress can promote radicle growth of Qiongzhuea tumidinoda seed, while high concentrations (≥15%) were inhibited. Compared with the control group, the initial germination time of Qiongzhuea tumidinoda seed delayed significantly with the increase of PEG concentration. When the PEG concentration was 30%, the seeds of Qiongzhuea tumidinoda did not germinate. After rinsed with distilled water, the seeds which did not germinate under the condition of 30% PEG concentration recovered their germination ability under general conditions.
