Studies on the Species of Amphibians and Reptiles in Wuding and Mouding of Yunnan

  • In order to acquire the species of amphibians and reptiles in Wuding and Mouding counties the special research carried out by the methods of line transect survey, point sampling, consulting data, inquiry census and expert consultation etc. on May and July, 2015. The result showed that 18 species of amphibians which belong to 14 genera, 8 families, 2 orders and 23 species of reptiles belonging to 17 genera, 9 families, 3 orders were recorded in the two counties. Among them, 2 species were cataloged in the first class and second class state protected animals, respectively. 5 species were endemic species of Yunnan Province. Except 4 cosmopolitan species, the others belong to Oriental Realm and most of them were the overlapping component in the Southwest, Southern China and Central China. In this survey, the species and populations of amphibians and reptiles were less than expected. Reasons were discussed, this region of the two counties was just located at the Central Yunnan and it was the transition area of species distribution from north of the Jinsha River to Ailao Mountain and its south region. The exotic species Rana catesbeiana was found in both of the two counties and Trachemys scripta elegans was found in Wuding County. The harm of exotic species to indigenous species and ecosystem was selfevident. We should pay more attention to the phenomenon, monitor the population dynamics of exotic species and control the pervasion in order to protect local biological and genetic diversity.
