The Preparation of Carbon Foam with Macropores Structure from the Phenolated Walnut Shell Powder

  • Foamable phenol resin of liquefied products of walnut (Juglans regia shell powder was prepared, and then macroporous carbon foam was obtained by foaming method. In this study, effect of foaming condition on the microstructure, bulk density and compressive strength of the carbon foam were mainly investigated. Results showed that the liquefied product resin had the foaming performance with formaldehyde and it could be used to prepare the carbon foam. The optimum conditions were obtained through image analysis of the bulk density, compressive strength and microstructure. The dosage of curing agent, foaming agent and surfactant were 5%-6%, 2%-3% and 8% respectively. The experiment was conducted which the dosage of curing agent, foaming agent and surfactant were 5%, 2% and 8% respectively, and macropore carbon foam was obtained which it had high opening porosity, uniform pore distribution, bulk density of 0.34 g/cm3, compressive strength of 6.7 MPa and average pore size of 40-70 μm.
