Nutrient Analysis of Dendrocalamus hamiltonii Shoots from Different Provenances

  • The aim of the study was to measure the basic nutrient components, mineral substance and amino acids of Dendrocalamus hamiltonii shoots harvested from Menghai and Mengla, Xishaungbana, Yunnan. The study also conducted a quality and nutrient value analysis between the 2 tested bamboo species and other 10 bamboo species in Yunnan. The results showed D.hamiltonii shoots contained rich nutrient with good flavor. D.hamiltonii shoots from Menghai contained higher water content, total sugar but lower crude fiber and protein content than those from Mengla. Whereas the total amino acid and essential amino acid of D.hamiltonii shoots from Mengla was richer than those of D.giganteus shoots from Menghai. D.hamiltonii shoots from these two places contained higher K and Ca but lower Fe and the other mineral substance was comparable with other common bamboo species in Yunnan.
