Screening of Lightweight Medium for Eustoma grandiflorum in Soilless Culture

  • In order to solve the environmental pollution, a study on the selection of optional directions of light soilless culture substrates for Eustoma grandiflorum with vermiculite would find out the best proportion of different combinations such as vermiculite, slag, peat, perlite was carried out. According to the plant growth indexes such as budding rate, height of plant and stem diameter, appropriate growth substrate proportion, physical and chemical property scope were probed into. The results showed that the best sample was T6: V (perlite) :V (peat) :V (vermiculite) :V (slag)= 2:3:1:4. The appropriate physical and chemical property for E.grandiflorum was as follows: bulk density was 0.36 g/cm3, total porosity was 63.67%, capillary porosity was 23.55%, ratio between air and capillary was 0.59, pH was 6.9, EC was 38.8 μS/cm.
