Anti-Tobacco Mosaic Virus Activity of 11 Plant Extracts

  • In order to develop environmentally friendly antiviral agents from plants, the anti tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) activities of extracts from 11 plants were studied by half-leaf method. The results showed that petroleum ether extracts from Laggera pterodonta, the ethyl acetate extracts from Oenothera rosea and the water extracts from L.pterodonta showed potent antiviral proliferation activities with inhibition rates of 68.47%, 80.19% and 94.57% respectively at the concentration of 1 mg/mL. The petroleum ether extracts from L.pterodonta, ethyl acetate extracts from Aster subulatus and water extracts from L.pterodonta showed prominent inactivation activities against TMV with inhibition rate 80.00%, 76.38% and 83.33%, respectively. According to TAS-ELISA experiment, extracts from L.pterodonta, Clinopodium polycephalum, Solanum pseudo-capsicum, A.subulatus, Leonurus Artemisia, Sida szechuensis showed significant anti-TMV proliferation activities in Nicotiana tabacum CV. K326. The antivirus components from these plants were worth further investigation.
