Estimation of Forest Carbon Sinks Loss Caused by Fire in China During 1996-2013

  • Based on the data of forest damage accumulation and affected forest area in Chinese provinces (city) during 1996-2013, direct and indirect loss of carbon sinks were estimated by the forestry industry standard (LY/Y 1721-2008) Estimation of direct and indirect carbon loss caused by forest fire was 67.52 × 106 t during 1996-2013, the economic value was $10.129 × 108.Among all loss, direct carbon loss was 45.63 × 106 t, the direct economic loss was $6.845 × 108, the indirect carbon loss was 21.89 × 106 t, the indirect economic loss was $3.284 × 106, the average annual loss was 3.75 × 106 t, of total carbon. An annual economic loss was $563 × 108.
