Ant Species Diversity of Burang and GyirongSections of Mt. Himalaya

  • In order to reveal ant distribution in the Himalaya, a sample-plot survey was conducted at Burang and Gyirong to analyze the diversity of ants in 2016. The results showed that 9 955 ant individuals were observed. 15 species belonging to 3 subfamilies and 9 genera were recognized at 2 sections, Burang had 5 species and Gyirong had 14 species. Ant species numbers, individual densities, diversity indexes and evenness indexes were basically decreasing with altitudes rising, meanwhile Multi-Domain Effect phenomenon was observed. Temperature and rainfall restricted vertical distribution of ant species, vegetation type and landscape character influenced ant individual density, and slope direction and altitude had important effects on ant community differentiation.
