Damage and Occurrence Regularity of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus on Garden Plants in Kunming

  • In order to specify the damage and occurrence regularity of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus in Kunming. Host plant species, damage, and life history of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus from 2014 to 2016 were investigated. The development and reproduction of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus on 9 species of host plants were also studied. Result showed that there were 38 plant species belong to 21 families were infected by Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus, of which 11 species including Pistacia chinensi, Diospyros lotus, Elaeocarpus decipiens, Rhododendron delavayi, Bischofia polycarpa, Magnolia praecocissima, Magnolia delavayi, Fallopia multiflora, Photinia glomerata, Crataegus scabrifolia and Koelreuteria paniculata were firstly reported. Malus halliana, Parakmeria yunnanensis, Michelia sphaerantha, Michelia yunnanensis, Magnolia praecocissima, Magnolia denudate, Acer buergerianum and Elaeocarpus decipiens were seriously damaged by this pests. The pests which on Magnolia praecocissima had 1 generation a year in Kunming 2nd and 3rd instar nymphs could overwinter. The adults laid eggs in late July, the 1st instar nymph was found in middle of August. The egg stage of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus on Magnolia praecocissim, Magnolia denudate and Elaeocarpus decipiens was the longest, about 70 d, and on Malus halliana, Magnolia yunnanensis, Koelreuteria paniculata and Acer buergerianum was the shortest, about 56 d. The 1st inatar nymph stage ranged from 56 d on Elaeocarpus decipiens to 28 d on Malus halliana.
